ALABC 2016-2018 R&D Program

The ninth research program of the ALABC (2016-2018) is currently underway and additional project proposals are still under consideration.  Stay tuned for more updates, or contact the ALABC offices for more information.

ALABC 2013-2015 R&D Program

The eighth research program of the ALABC (2013-2015) continued work in the areas of extended cycle life and enhanced performance through the advances made in the previous programs.  The following is a list of the current projects and a brief explanation of each:

Projects of the 1315 Program

1. 1315-STD1
Development and testing of deep PSoC cycling carbon-enhanced VLRA batteries for energy recovery in port cranes and elevators

2. 1315-48VLCSH
Vehicle modeling, construction, demonstration and evaluation of 48-Volt LC SuperHybrid system with carbon-enhanced VRLA batteries for micro/mild hybrid vehicle duty

3. 1315-RN1
Polarization studies on the influence of carbon and nano-sized carbon additives to the negative active material on the electrochemical properties of the negative plate and micro structure analyses using the combination of X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and electrochemical atomic force microscope

4. 1315-AVD
Modeling, construction and demonstration of a “T-hybrid” micro/mild hybrid vehicle with Hyundai Europe and other partners

5. 1315-ADEPT
Modeling, construction, demonstration and evaluation of Advanced Diesel Electric Powertrain with carbon-enhanced VRLA batteries for HEV duty

6. 1315-SR1 9213 REV-LC
Review of the ALABC information collected through its history on the carbon effect in negative plates

7. 1315-SR2 9213 REV-DKTest
Review of the ALABC information collected through its history on the methods for HEV battery testing and evaluation in the USA

8. 1315-NGHV
Development of a compressed natural gas fueled start-stop hybrid light duty pickup truck with advanced lead-acid batteries

Projects Continued from Previous Programs

1. SPSoC1
Optimization of charge algorithm and battery design to improve cycling performance under partial state-of-charge operation typical for PV systems

2. 1012KD-F
Finalizing of the development of high power and long life 2V VRLA Cells for Micro/Mild Hybrid Duty with optimized grid design and carbon additives to the NAM (known as ISOLAB batteries), started in the 1012 program as 1012KA, KB and KC projects, and continued as 1012KD project in the 1315 Program

3. DP18-DC1
Finalizing a performance and life study of the Lead-Carbon UltraBattery® in Arizona Real-World HEV duty testing in a Honda Civic mild hybrid from 0709 (co-funded by the USDoE) which continued through 1012 and ended in the 1315 program

4. 1012N
Maintenance and final adjustments of the 12V LC SuperHybrid developed in the 1012 Program

ALABC 2010-2012 R&D Program

The seventh research program of the ALABC (2010-2012) continued the successful history of the Consortium in promoting new, improved, lead-acid batteries for modern applications.  The following summary of projects under this program is broken down into three categories: battery science, battery technology, and demonstration.  Each section summarizes the progress of the individual projects in that particular area of research.
